Website pages to streamline your eBay experience

By Aron Hsiao, About.com

eBay has for a number of months now been rolling out new website sections that provide resources for eBay buyers and sellers and for the community at large, in addition to their core auction listings business. Among these sections are things like eBay Pulse, eBay Blogs, eBay Wiki and eBay Reviews and Guides.

Several more that can help you to streamline your eBay experience have recently been launched, and together they, too, help to make your eBay experience just a little more personal and immediate.

eBay My World: Your eBay Home Page

If you enjoy participating in eBay's community features, you might be interested in a new eBay home page system called eBay My World that provides you with the ability to easily create a kind of eBay home page—with much more detail than a mere About Me page—on which you have control over the eBay information that others will see about you when they visit. You can incorporate your feedback, current listings, your eBay blog, links to your reviews and guides, and more to create a unified eBay front page through which others eBay members can know you.

The Chatter: eBay's Blog, Revitalized

eBay's own forum for communicating with its members was revitalized in the second half of last year as The Chatter, which is now a nice window into all things eBay from eBay's own perspective. Company issues and information, community members and contents, events, and other types of information that members might be interested in are covered here.

eBay Deal Finder

Rather than having to construct advanced searches to find listings that are about to end and that are still dead cheap, if you want to search eBay for good deals on which the gavel is about to fall you can now just use eBay Deal Finder, which automates this kind of search, removing the extra steps that were necessary to construct it before.

eBay Map It

The same goes for eBay Map It, which provides a convenient interface through which to search for listings that are geographically near to you, for example if you want to be able to pick an item up locally when you buy it. Just be sure to check with the seller before you assume that this can be done—some smaller sellers sell out of their home and don't want buyers turning up on their doorsteps!

Oldie But Goodie: eBay Toolbar

If you're always searching eBay for something or other and you use Internet Explorer, it may be time for you to download and install the eBay Toolbar, which integrates eBay with your web browser so that you can instantly conduct eBay business at any time without first having to visit the eBay front page.

If you're a Firefox user, the Groowe Search Toolbar incorporates similar features for eBay and for a number of other sites as well.
