Drive Sales with Markdown Manager
Put your eBay store items on sale to drive sales

By , About.com Guide

If you've already got an eBay store but are looking for a marketing tool to help you drive those few extra sales every month that make a difference, consider giving markdown manager a shot.

Every shopper loves a sale—eBay shoppers in particular. After all, that's why many eBay shoppers are on eBay to begin with—they are searching for good deals. Markdown manager gives you, as an eBay store owner, a way to place items visibly "on sale" in your eBay store, complete with regular price strike-thrus and sales logo. Other features of markdown manager include:

  • The ability to put items on sale in groups or by category
  • The ability to apply sale prices for anywhere from 1-45 days
  • The ability to discount items by 5-75 percent
  • The ability to schedule sales up to six months in advance

In order to use markdown manager, you must have an eBay store. There are no added fees (use of markdown manager is free) and few restrictions, spelled out in the markdown manager FAQ. In particular, the number of items that can be placed on sale on a given day, or the number of changes made to sale items on a given day, may be limited by the type of eBay Stores subscription that you maintain. Also, no listing can be discounted by more than a single sale at any given time, meaning that there is a (probably tasteful) limit to the pure marketing value of markdown manager.

If you already have an eBay store, you can give markdown manager a try by choosing "Marketing Tools > Item Promotion > Markdown Manager" in your My eBay area. Use markdown manager to clear out old inventory, for seasonal sales and promotions, or simply as a regular marketing tool for driving turnover—your shoppers will thank you, and so will your sales tally.
