On the second page of the listing tool you'll be asked to select a main category for your item. This will determine the general area of the eBay category system in which your item will eventually appear.
If you are having trouble selecting a main category, two other options are available to you here, in addition to the main category selection:
- Search for a category. Near the top of the page you'll see a box titled "Enter item keywords to find a category." If you're having trouble selecting a category, type the name or type of your item into the box and click "Search." You will then be presented with a list of main categories from which to choose.
- Select a second category. If you feel that your item really belongs in at least two categories, you can list a second category after choosing the first. Unfortunately, the tool to do so is somewhat awkward. Follow these steps:
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the box labeled "Choose a second category."
- Click on the "category #" link to see a list of eBay categories by number.
- Choose a category and enter its number in the box to select a second category.
Note that if you select two categories for your auction listing, you'll be charged double the listing fees that would otherwise apply, since as a result your auction will appear in two separate categories.
Once you have selected a category or categories for your item listing, click "Continue >" to proceed to the next step.
