Select the auction listing format to follow along with this step-by-step.

To list an item on eBay, begin by clicking on the "Sell" link near the top of the eBay front page or indeed nearly any page on the site.

You'll see the first page of the selling tool, asking you for the type of listing that you'd like to post. There are several types of listings from which sellers can choose, but by far the most popular type of listing—and the one we'll cover here—is the "Online Auction" format.

Select "Online Auction" and click the "Sell Your Item >" button to continue with the listing process.
