Using eBay Groups (continued)

Manage your group memberships

By Aron Hsiao, About.com

Joining and Using Groups

To join a group, you must be an eBay member and be logged in to the eBay website. Then, follow these steps to find and join an eBay group and begin participating in group discussions:

  1. Browse through the eBay Groups home page categories until you find a group you think you'd like to join.

  2. Click on the group's name in the list to view the home page for the group in question.

  3. Read the information on the group's home page and click on the "Group Charter" link near the bottom of the page to read the group's charter.

  4. If the information on the group's home page and the group charter continue to interest you, click on the "Join Group" button to join the group.

It's that easy! Once inside the group, you'll see a list of the activities available to you as a group member in the sidebar on the left edge of the page. These activities include:

  • Members, which lists the members of the group by eBay ID and feedback, and provides a quick shortcut to the auctions listings of every member that is also a seller.

  • Announcements, which lists news and announcements for the eBay group.

  • Discussions, where you can post messages and topics and converse freely with other members of the group.

  • Photo Albums, where members can share digital photos of each other and group events.

  • Events Calendar, which lists group events and important upcoming dates, including group meetings and conference calls.

  • Polls, where members can offer their opinions in response to questions or issues that affect members of the group.

Near the bottom of any group page, on the left edge of the page, you'll find administrative options related to your group membership. Use these to alter your preferences for reading and participating in discussions and for inviting fellow eBayers to join and participate in the group you're visiting.

Accessing Your Groups and Ending Membership

Whenever you are logged into the eBay website, you can access any of the groups to which you belong using your My Groups page. You can access the My Groups page at any time by visiting the eBay Community hub, then clicking on the "Groups" link near the middle of the page, and finally clicking on the "My Groups" link at the upper-right of the groups page.

To end your membership in an eBay group to which you belong, use My Groups to access the home page for the group in question. Then, click on the "Remove Me" link near the lower edge of the sidebar at the left edge of the group's home page. You will then be prompted to confirm your decision, and afterward, your membership will be ended.
