eBay's Contact eBay Customer Support tool is a remnant of eBay's old online customer service system, and the only remaining way to "send an email to eBay" without using the newer eBay customer support tools. Results for those attempting to use this tool are mixed.
When accessing the tool (use the links above or below), you'll likely be asked to sign in using your eBay member ID and password.
If you receive an error, visit the eBay.com front page, sign out of your eBay account using the small "Sign out" link near the top center of the page, and then try this link again while signed out. You'll be asked to sign in again, after which the tool will work.
Because of this tool's age and status, there are some things to keep in mind about it:
- It's not the way eBay wants to hear from you. eBay officially phased out email-based customer service in the early 2000s, and since then there has been no official way to email eBay directly. eBay prefers that all customers use its Contact eBay tool, but many users find that tool to be time-consuming to use and it doesn't always lead to "real human" contact, either by telephone or otherwise.
- Results vary; many are disappointed. Because this tool is not intended for public use, eBay often simply responds to emails sent this way with a "please call us" message providing a phone number or worse, with a message directing the user to the updated Contact eBay tool described above.
- Responses can be slow. At times, responses using this contact avenue are also slow and erratic. You may not receive a response at all.
- This tool's life expectancy is not known. Because eBay clearly in many cases does not wish to respond to email received using this tool or responds with form letters, it's not clear why this tool is left in place or how long it will continue to exist at all.
Despite these limitations, many users continue to prefer to at least attempt to contact eBay by email using this last-known "email eBay" tool, rather than beginning with publicly known phone numbers or the Contact eBay tool. However, if your issue is time-sensitive or involves large sums of money, this is likely not the best way to try to contact eBay.
