Using Want It Now (continued)
Selling to Want It Now buyers

By Aron Hsiao, About.com

If you're an eBay seller looking to sell an item to a would-be buyer through Want It Now, follow these steps.

  1. First, visit the Want It Now home page.

  2. On the Want It Now home page, either browse through the Want It Now categories to find listings matching the items that you have to sell, or enter search terms for items that you already have available by entering terms in the "Search Want It Now" box.

  3. When you find a listing in the results that seems to match an item that you have for sale, click on the listing to see a detailed description written by the prospective buyer.

  4. If the buyer's description matches your item, price, and terms, and you feel as though you'd like to sell to them, click on the "Respond" button at the top of the listing to respond to the buyer.

  5. On the "Want It Now: Respond" page that follows, either enter the item number for the auction listing you think the buyer might like to bid on or click on "Sell Your Item" to start a new listing in order to sell to this buyer.

Note that if you don't know the item number for one or more of your auction listings, you can quickly find the number(s) in question by clicking on the "items you're selling" link at the lower-right of the response page.

Once you've responded to a Want It Now listing, the prospective buyer in question will be notified of your response and will be able to bid on the auction listing in question, like any other eBay transaction.

Want It Now Caveats and Limitations

Because the audience for Want It Now is limited, both in terms of buyers and sellers, Want It Now is best suited to rare and unusual items in cases in which neither the buyer nor the seller are in a particular hurry to transact.

For regular sales of common items, sellers don't need to waste time searching the Want It Now listings; just list your item for sale on eBay through regular channels and you'll do well without having to search for buyers. For regular purchases of common items, don't bother with a Want It Now post, which may take weeks to generate results. Instead, just search for and buy the item you'd like using the regular eBay website and listings.

Finally, keep in mind that there is no obligation in Want It Now posts. Prospective buyers are free to list items, then fail to purchase from any responding sellers, while sellers are free to respond to Want It Now posts only to cancel the buyers' bids afterward if he or she decides not to sell before the auction has closed.
